The selfoss home page is different - selfoss support forum

Hi,
just installed selfoss 2.7 on ec2 Ubuntu 13.04 with MySQL following the instructions in the website. I get a very different home page when loading the home page. You can see it at http://ec2-54-214-71-70.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/selfoss/.
Any suggestion why this is happening?

I encountered this with non working mod_rewrite. Try to check it's availability and related configurations.

thanks! I looked at the error_log file and there is plenty of references to files not found. I'm not very experimented in PHP. Can you have a fast look and help me to fix it?

thank you for your help. I combined your suggestions plus information from here http://askubuntu.com/questions/48362/how-to-enable-mod-rewrite-in-apache.
looks like rules are now working but I'm getting a different error.

this is what I did:
1. created selfoss.conf and copied to /etc/apache2/mods-available
2. sudo a2enmod rewrite
3. edited /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and modified
<Directory /var/www/>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride FileInfo
Order allow,deny
allow from all
</Directory>
4. sudo service apache2 restart

The error that now I'm getting is

Solved!!!!
This is what you need to do to install selfoss in Ubuntu 13.04

1. Upload all files to var/www/selfoss(IMPORTANT: also upload the invisible .htaccess files)
2. Make the directories data/cache, data/favicons, data/logs, data/thumbnails, data/sqlite and public/ writeable
3. Insert database access data in config.ini (see below -- you have not to change anything if you would like to use sqlite)
3. You don't have to install the database, it will be created automatically
4. enable the rule engine: sudo a2enmod rewrite
5. Edit /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and add
<Directory /var/www/selfoss/>
AllowOverride All
</Directory>
6. restart the apache web server: sudo service apache2 restart
7. Create cronjob for updating feeds and point it to http://yourselfossurl.com/update via wget or curl. You can also execute the update.php from commandline.
